I have been running Kubuntu 12.04 from a usb stick and liked it so much that I installed it to replace my ubuntu 11.10 using the same .iso as on the usb stick. Now i cannot install firefox? It installed ok when running from the usb. The Firefox browser installer runs and says it has installed but it is not there. I have tried from the Muon SW Center and again it runs but is not there. I have used terminal - 'sudo apt-get install firefox' and get a message that the package is missing. What do I need to do? (I am no expert so would appreciate simple please )

I found the solution by further searching in the 'help the new guy' forum. By running 'sudo apt-get update' in terminal first I was then able to install firefox. Still not clear why it would install running from the usb but not from the full install but still ...

I'd suspect that the update was needed because a fresh install has not had an update so it doesn't know what's available in the repositories.GigaByte GA-965G-DS3, Core2Duo at 2.1 GHz, 4 GB RAM, ASUS DRW-24B1ST, LiteOn iHAS 324 A, NVIDIA 7300 GS, 500 GB and 80 GB WD HDD
