    LuckyBackup haphazard behavior

Greetings and sorry to be posting so many problems recently, but for some reason I have been having issue ruining some of my applications, applications that use to run without a glitch at one point in time.

This issue is a couple of month old now but it seems to be more of an issue recently. In short I will start LuckyBackup and it will tell me that there is nothing to backup (despite the fact that some files where added and deleted) I would run the application as root and that would solve the problem. I could also try a few times and mount and unmount the USB hard drive a couple of times and it would do the trick.

Today I had to wait for a couple of hours and various mountings and unmountings for the backup to run. Do I have an issue with my fstab configuration (see other usb problem threads)? or is this LuckyBackup related?

    Thanks,

    Michel

Luckybackup was not at fault. For some reason my external HD is now called USB0. I just had to change that in the destination and it is now working again.

Have you possibly considered reinstalling? 12.10 I felt it was substantially better than 12.04 on many fronts. Repeated problems with Kubuntu is fairly rare nowadays so I wonder if there aren't just a ton of borked configs etc on your system. You should maybe consider just trying
      Code:
      mv ~/.kde/share/config/ ~/.kde/share/config_old
You might need to try .kde4 too. This will remove all your kde settings so log out before you do it and drop to a tty with with Alt+Ctrl+F1. You could even try moving the entire .kde directory.

I'm not sure what these commands are dmeyer. Are they meant to move old potentially corrupt config files? Will kde recreate the files directories on its own? Should I run the same lines with .kde and .kde4?

Regarding upgrading to 12.10. Will I have to re-install all of my applications? Is there a way to install from within 12.04?

        Thanks,

        Michel

Exactly. It will move config files and when you log in they will regenerate. You must be logged out when you move them else it won't help.

If you upgrade to 12.10 some of your issues might remain with messed up config files etc etc. If I were you I would back-up my home. Download a fresh 12.10 image, format, reinstall fully and build your system back-up.

Moving the config files seems to have cured my problems so far. I downloaded 12.10 and will keep it handy in case I need it. I think I will stick with the Lts for now. I really don't like to keep on resetting my production system.

Thanks a lot for the fix.

Agreed. It should be painless to upgrade but it never is.

for a production box I would stay at 12.04 .
you could have the KDE-4.10.1 on it with the backports PPA
                Code:
                sudo apt-add-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
                then
                Code:
                sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
if you have a NON production box with 12.04 and want to go to 12.10 you could use
                Code:
                do-release-upgrade
to do it ,,if you add the -d switch it should take you to 13.04 but it usualy safer to go 12.10 fuly update it then go on with the -d switch ,,,,,,,I'v never had a problem with it but as thay say YMMV (your mileage may very)

Thanks Vinny. I already have KDE 4.10.1 and this is a production machine. So I will stick with 12.04 for now. i hope bugs will be sorted out soon.

Nothing specific just a lot of "Crash Notifications". I also get a message regarding my audio devices when I use KDE partition manager !?!!?

                      Thanks,

                      Michel
