Libre Office is a Gnome app? I always thought is was desktop neutral.

And Firefox and Thunderbird are also Gnome apps?

Did you also follow the links to the kde forum?

Gnome in the sense that they use GTK+ libraries, whereas Kubuntu apps use Qt libraries. That is, except for LibreOffice, which uses C++, java, and Python.

        Snowhog:

I edited my post twice since you posted that reply.

I like KDE. I think it is the best desktop environment currently available. That is why I am here. However, it is made by imperfect volunteers that get ticked off from time to time just like everyone else.

I am glad that those volunteers are there. One day, they may actually agree on how to do things. In the meantime, we cope, and thank the hard workers for their efforts.

OK, tried setting window size as you suggested, using 'force'. No change. LO just seems to ignore any of that. I didn't play with Firefox or Thunderbird to see if it made any diffference there. So I'm back to just 'putting up with it' for the time being. Eventually it will get sorted out, I am sure.

One interesting thing I have found is that when opening a new document in LO (file | new) the window comes up in the current size. Opening an existing document on disk, however, comes up in more or less random sizes and locations, for that session. Sometimes whatever window I had open last will be used as a size setting for opening a saved document, but I've been unable to find out what combination of steps I must take to get that to happen. If I work with full-screen windows, then new ones open full-screen as well, so I have learned to use that when I need consistency, and just switch between desktops with the pager.

I have no problem putting up with this. I am happy to have software of this quality, and I can easily overlook minor inconveniences. However, at the same time, is there an alternate KDE window manager to KWin that I could try?
