Kde 4.9.4

KDE 4.9.4 is now in backports. Really nice of the Kubuntu folks to roll it out for the 12.04 gang !

It killed my KDM (removed it) and a significant portion of kubuntu-desktop. I got it all straightened out, and have KDM and kubuntu-desktop once again. The upgrade to 4.9.4 (from 4.9.3) also uninstalled kmymoney and plasma-widget-lancelot! Had to re-install both also.

Upgraded to KDE 4.9.4 from 4.9.3 on both my systems without an issue. Also, I agree and compliment the devs on providing us with this update. Thank you!

Yeah... It did the same here also. I thought maybe it was unique to my system... guess not.

mmm... I should keep up on this. My 12.04 still shows KDE 4.8.5. When was 9.4.3 released into 12.04 backports? Where is the PPA for the KDE 4.9.4 and do those who have done it recommend I pass through the previous releases or would jumping from 4.8.5 to 4.9.4 work ok?

You'll have to jump, Jerry. The backports PPA will take you directly to 4.9.4.

Forgot this post should add did upgrade without a hitch. Guess high tech techniques like crossing your fingers can still work sometimes!

upgrade
upgrade is used to install the newest versions of all packages
currently installed on the system from the sources enumerated in
/etc/apt/sources.list. Packages currently installed with new
versions available are retrieved and upgraded; under no
circumstances are currently installed packages removed, or packages
not already installed retrieved and installed. New versions of
currently installed packages that cannot be upgraded without
changing the install status of another package will be left at
their current version. An update must be performed first so that
apt-get knows that new versions of packages are available.

dist-upgrade
dist-upgrade in addition to performing the function of upgrade,
also intelligently handles changing dependencies with new versions
of packages; apt-get has a "smart" conflict resolution system, and
it will attempt to upgrade the most important packages at the
expense of less important ones if necessary. So, dist-upgrade
command may remove some packages. The /etc/apt/sources.list file
contains a list of locations from which to retrieve desired package
files. See also apt_preferences(5) for a mechanism for overriding
the general settings for individual packages.

I always use dist-upgrade.
