Of course i did that would be like the guy that has a new tv that won't work. He winds up paying $100.00 just so a repair tech. comes out walks behind it plugs it in, turns it and says 'all fixed' and now the guy fells like an idiot.

I used copy and paste and didn't notice that i didn't get all of the package name copied.

It improved the display of STO. Its still not displaying right. Now the ship show ocassionly but the graphics keep flickering on and off. It looks like it tries to display right but some thing keeps overiding it and most of the display gose dark. Any body got any ideas?

well ,,,thar ya go , I am not surprised that playing a graphics intensive game would maby have some trouble displaying well through virtualization software :-P

you may get better results giving wine the native win sys dll's to work with ,,,,,or not !!
do you have the guest additions installed in the vista VM ?

Yes I installed the guest additions. I figured STO and other Directx games would need that in order to even install. Wine has the following verbs installed for STO:
              WINEPREFIX=/$HOME/'Wine Prefixes'/'Star Trek Online' winetricks list-installed
              corefonts
              d3dx10
              d3dx11_42
              d3dx9_26
              d3dx9_28
              d3dx9_31
              d3dx9_35
              d3dx9_36
              d3dx9_39
              d3dx9_42
              d3dx9
              directx9
              ie8
              msls31
              xact_jun2010
              xact
              xinput

I think I probably have more verbs than i need installed. My guess is its more a mesa problem at this point. specifically that iGMA 45 GP chipset.

ya some ware in wine config (it's been a wile since I played with it ) their is a place to point wine to native windows system dll's (as in windows\system\sys32 I think) if you have those it may/may not not help some.

its not in winecfg. I have been looking through the registry via winetricks in the STO WINEPREFIX but so far nothing jumps out at me.

I still think i need change how mesa sets up but how?

I had to reinstall wine. Do I need to reinstall the games as none of them seem to be working via wine?

It looks like I figured out how to get mesa configured correctly. Wine dosn't work but the Vista VM displays STO almost perfectly now. I just need to turn down some video options to see if i can get decent FPS to play the game. I'll try reinstalling in wine later. Wine probably llost some links to the games.

it might be most helpful to others if you could include a explanation of what you did to get mesa to play nice for you.

I was reading this some more and thought maybe instead of downloading that one file that maybe i should download the entire thing. That fixed almost every thing STO is still a little dark and the brightness calibration tool is still broken but at least you can see everything now. It just a little dark but not so bad as you can see to play. I just have to get wine to work as I got the VM to work and its way to slow for STO the FPS is terrible. Wine should be able to do it, i just need to reinstall so it can work right with the new mesa set up.

I got it working via wine! Hopfully Ubuntu devlopers and xorg edgers - or whatever they are called - can work together in the future to improve mesa especially for Intel graphics chips.
