I am currently using 10.04 Lucid, but am considering installing 12.04. One of the things that is a lot different is kmix. In 10.04 kmix displays a lot more devices. With 10.04 I have KDE 4.4.5 and kmix 3.6 and the following devices are available:
Tab labeled HDA ATI SB
Master
PCM
Headphone
Front Mic Boost
Front Mic
Beep
Capture
Mic Boost
Mic Boost (Capture)
Speaker
Digital
Tab labeled HDA ATI HDMI
the ability to mute IEC958
With 12.04 I have KDE 4.8.4 and kmix 4.1
Tab 1 Playback Devices
RS880 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 420 D Series]
Digital Stereo (HDMI)
Builtin Audio Analog Stereo
Tab 2 Capture Devices
Built-in Audio Analog Stereo
Tab 3 Playback Streams
Event Sounds
Tab 4 Capture Streams
There are no volume controls
There is also a 'Configuration Setting...' in kmix 3.6 that does not appear in 4.1.
Can anyone suggest why the difference between the two versions of kmix, and, maybe more importantly, where I might find documentation on what all this means?
Thank you,
Monon
