Upgrade to 12.10? How do we do that from 12.04

    And more importantly, should we?

open your package manager , go to settings>configure software sources , click on the updates tab , under "release upgrade" make sure it reads "normal releases"

then click check for updates ,,,,,,or go to a terminal and do
    Code:
    sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Wow.. that was quick. I changed the setting in muon this morning but didn't get anything so wondered if I was doing the right thing.. I guess it's not out for Kubutu just yet. Thanks very much Vinny.

              Wish I hadn't started this.

Install was going well, downloaded about 1000 packages and was just over half way through installing them when suddenly the Bluetooth mouse died promptly followed by X crashing. Logged into a text terminal and after the current dpkg session stopped installed the remaining 500 or so packages. Towards the end the process stopped with Nvidia crashing this time.

Rinse and repeat got everything installed (it seemed).

Rebooted but now am stuck with the default kdm login that goes nowhere. Log in, cursor changes to the default X x and shortly after i'm back at the login screen.

HELP please. What do I do from here?

              Ta. Peter.

Seems that kdm wasn't installed. Have done so, now just hangs at kdm after login. Kdm.log says

D-Bus call failed: "Not connected to D-Bus server"

Added a new user. Tried to login there and got Failed to load session "gnome". What the?

Just bit the bullet and installed from scratch. Working fine now.

seems the transition from kdm to lightdm can cause some trouble ?
