Boot into command line, can't get GUI running

All of a sudden, Kubuntu goes into the command line and I can't get out. Tried sudo kdm but no joy.

I updated the system using sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade first and went to kernel 3.2.0.32 and tthen tried those commands, no joy.

        Code:
        sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
        Then try again.

I tried that and it said that the latest version was already installed.

Does running "startx" as your normal user from the terminal do anything/spit out anything useful?

            Also look at ~/.xsession-errors after.

Thanks for your help, I decided to put 12.10 final on instead.
