Kate not working properly

    Kate not working properly

    The delete and backspace buttons have stopped working in Kate. I was using it to edit some big HTML files and thought I was going mad because of the unpredictable results I was getting, until I identified the problem.

    I have installed Kwrite and this is working fine so I don't believe that this is a keyboard issue. However,I would like to get Kate working again if possible.

    Does anyone have any suggestions please?


    EDIT
    I've found the problem if not the cure.

    For some reason Kate has started opening files in "read only mode". If I uncheck this in the tools menu eveything works properly until the next time I open a file when its back ro read only mode.

    Any ideas why this happens?

    There is an option on the "Tools" menu called "Read Only Mode". Is it checked?

      Yes it is checked and unchecking it makes everything work ok.

      What I can't understand is why Kate has suddenly started opening files in read only mode, I have never experienced this before.
