    Unity Desktop

    Is this not for use with Kubuntu? I tried to install from the Muon interface been after rebooting, I can no longer log in. I receive a Gnome error after I hit enter. I can login after switching from default to KDE Plasma on the log in screen though. I am just wondering if it is not meant to run on Kubuntu at all but if it is........ what can I do to get it to work? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. I wanted to try this interface while I am having problems with my windows install before I decide to reload windows again.

    It sounds like you haven't installed the full Unity desktop using Muon. You can either search for the Ubuntu desktop within Muon or using the terminal type the following command
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
    This should install all the Unity packages and Gnome 3 libraries you need to run Unity. Once installed, you should be able to log out and login to Unity (or you may need to reboot to get your computer to recognise the new interface).
    By the way, if your planning to revert back to Windows, why try Linux?

      You could technically run Unity in Kubuntu, but that would kind of defeat the purpose. You would be much better off trying Ubuntu, which uses Unity by default. Try it out in a virtual machine if you dont want to do a fresh install.

        When you talk about Kubuntu, do you really mean KDE? When you install another interface (desktop) alongside the default it does not run within the default interface but alongside it. You choose which interface you want to use when you log in.

          @nickstonefan
          I have been running a dual boot system since Kubuntu 9 so I have always loved Linux but it still lacks everything I needed such as driver support and ther rest of my families home network is windows based PCs. Also I won't even get into gaming, WINE is good but it is lacking. I will try to aptget it, I already tried it through Mon which is how I installed it but I am thinking it probably missed a file or 2 then. Thanks for the info
          Edit: I see I just tried to install Unity by itself not thinking that it was specific for Ubuntu and Gnome. Thanks again

          @whatthefunk thanks I will look into that.... maybe try Ubuntu as a dual boot since Win8 is giving me problems anyway. Just want to see if the interface is as good as ppl say or if I should just stick with what I know and love with KDE plasma.
