    Rip DVD ISO?

I am looking for a, preferably qt/kde, gui to rip DVDs right to an ISO on my HDD. I assumed k3b could do this, but everything I have tried results in wantign to burn the end result to another DVD. I tried google but mostly found cli options like dd or cat. In the case of dd, it can be very dangerous if you get the options wrong. Cat provides no sort of error checking or anything. Something along the lines of ImgBurn(screenshots) would be nice.

K3b dose this quite nicely ........pop in your DVD , in the device notifier click "copy with K3b" in the setting dialogue that pops up check only create ISO on the second tab where it lists the temp directory put the path to where you want the ISO to be saved ,,,,,,easy pesy

I do it all the time ,,,,,Keep in mind though the average DVD will be a 7-9 Gig .ISO

Had a little trouble understanding that but I see what your saying. I just figured if I hit cancel it would delete the temp file and it did, but I missed those options such as Only Create ISO. Thanks for the tip Vinny.

are you sure? some times it dose not ,,,,the default location of the temp file is /tmp/kde-vinny/ of course replace vinny with your user name

wile on the subject of K3b's temp file location it should be noted that you can change it .
for instance copying a DVD can require 7+Gig's of space, if your / is getting dangerously full this could cause problems.
open K3b and go to settings>configure K3b, on the misc tab you will see, "default temporary directory", you can their set it's Temp DIR to where ever you like , @hear I use "/home/vinny/Temp" as my root partition only has 7 Gig's free but my /home partition has 40-50 Gig's free.

Given that some distros are moving to mouting /tmp on tmpfs, buring large .ISOs could fail if you run out of RAM. It's probably a good idea to change K3B's default temporary file location to /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER.

K3B: If you select "Only Create Image" and then go to the Image tab and change the location, it doesn't delete it when done. At least that's how it works here.

Or you can just use dd from the command line:

              dd if=/dev/sr0 of=~/cdrom_image.iso

It would be super easy to write a servicemenu or script to do this if you're making these often.

+1 for K9copy. It will even compress the contents so they can be burned to a normal 4GB DVD.

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. What I meant to say was "I just figured if I hit cancel it would delete the temp file and it did, but I had not noticed the options such as Only Create Image so I haven't tried them yet.
