I've been using the microblogging plasmoid quite happily (if infrequently) for a long while, but sometime over the summer it stopped working. It fails to load any data from my Twitter account (except the profile picture, which is public) and I can't send tweets from it. On re-entering my credentials, I get an empty black window entitled 'authorize application' pop up, but nothing I do with it makes any difference (see screenshot).

I have tried removing and re-adding the plasmoid, with the same result.
Any help with this would be great. I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 (plasma netbook) with the backported KDE 4.9 packages.
