Application list shows 1 when no apps. are running!

My application list seems to be broken. Even when i first boot up it shows 1 app. running but when i click on it it shows nothing in the list. I can have 5 aps. running and only three will be listed even though it says 5 are running. This is an upgrade from Karmiic. I went though each upgrade to get to 12.04.1. Between upgrades I had to Sudo apt-get clean to free up enough memory to do the next upgrade. Eee PC modle 901. I have tried sudo apt-get upgrade to no effect.

What application list are you meaning? I am not clear on what you are meaning.

The bar at the top that you mouse over to revile. The one that has the time and other icons on it it list your applications so you can swich to them only mine dose'nt work right.

Perhaps a screenshot may help here? Are you perhaps using the netbook interface?
I think there was an old bug where a closed program would leave a stuck entry on the task bar but that was fixed long ago, before 12.04 I think. Perhaps it is a leftover configuration carried over?
