I just updated to vmlinuz-3.2.0-30-generic. Since then, when I switch on my external USB backup disk, the "Available devices" window sees it, but no longer allows me to click on the little square to mount it. Now all I can do is pick one of the actions proposed.
For info, here is lsusb before switching on the device

This all worked find before the dist-upgrade. (Oh, I added the ppa-backports source when I did that update in order to get the latest Amarok, as I had problems with the old one.)
I can mount the disk by hand with the mount command, but it does not show up at the same mount point (/media/disk-name), so my backup scripts do not work. Somewhat annoying.
