what is safe to remove? building a 400mb -500 mb ISO...

I want to remove stuff, and build a bare bones system using refracta

What can be removed without crashing the system or breaking KDE?

I got Debian xfce iso down to 400 mb while still having everything needed for webuse, on Debian, I want to remove all the corporate junk from the home desktop.

java? if its installed ( its over 100mb)
akandi or what ever its called, the PIM system ( I don't trust it, i suspect it could be a weak point for a hacker to gain access to my accounts)
kate (replace with leafpad) ?? or ?? better ideal?

replace armroc with clementine

blue devil, along with all Bluetooth drivers

1 theme, ( slim glow ) 1 wallpaper ( ?) 1 icon set, ...

Got it down to 670mb..

But there is still a lot of un-needed junk to be removed.

I found something that was 6mb, that is to help blind people use the console Why would blind people need to use the console? So there is still a lot of stuff.

However, two iterations ago, I think, or three mebbe, of Knoppix, the whole shebang DEFAULTED to a very nasaly, intoning, audio output of every word, or letter, that one typed! :0

So, one really can "use the console" in Knoppix and not able to see.

Wouldn't it be easier just to install a minimal CLI system, and then install only the packages you want? That completely avoids the need to make a custom ISO.

Eh? because for a blind person its a lot easier to type text commands then use a GUI, and conversely a lot easier to listen to text being spoken than an attempt to render a GUI to audio.

In general its much easier for people with severe sight impairments to work with text than graphics.
