    Increase Volume Past 100%

Sadly 100% volume is not that loud at all. Is there a way to increase it? I searched google and found some info about this relating to pulsedaudio in Kubuntu. Is it worth installing pulsedaudio for this purpose? I would rather not install a whole new back end just for the sake of adding clutter.

You already are using pulseaudio, it is default in *buntu, as well as most distros today.
One common thing to check is to run alsamixer in konsole and see if the levels there are set high enough, sometimes it is initally low/muted there, depending on hardware.

thanks for the info claydoh. I checked alsamixer and everything the matters is maxed out: http://i.imgur.com/hKtgF.png The solution I found says to use pulseaudio-equalizer but I can;t seem to find this package. :s

      EDIT: Just found it: ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8

Ok pulseaudio-equalizer doesnt seem to be much of a solution..just an EQ with frequencies but not any volume settings.

I found after changing settings in alsamixer, a change of audio playback device to something else and back again was needed.
          Kubuntu 12.04 - Acer Aspire 5750G

Not sure if this would work for what you want, but I usually go over 100% volume using Veromix http://code.google.com/p/veromix-plasmoid/
I can also control each stream individually with it

                Oh ok, not in alsamixer.
I found after changing anything in alsamixer, SystemSettings > Multimedia > Phonon and on the rhs select a different device, apply and change back to the original, apply again.

I dont recall veromix offering anything like that but will check it out.

Thats the thing, again, I did not change anything..there was nothing to change. Everything was maxed out.

Is this the same thing as plasma-widget-veromix? I tried to install the plasmoid but it jsut says it cant install. If it is the same thing as the plasma-widget-veromix I see the eq offers individual band adjustment but nothing to actually boost the output.

Ok I understand what you're saying. However alsamixer does not come 'maxed-out' by default.
So if you are yet to try SystemSettings > Multimedia > Phonon and select a different device then revert, then it just might be all that's needed.

Well maybe that has changed. Not trying to be argumentative but as I have pointed out, it was on max by default as I don't recall changing my out puts since I reformatted. I tried it out for the sake of testing but like I said, the settings were maxed out as it made no difference. Thanks anyways but Veromix is a much better solution even if this would have worked.

I tried veromix before and it seems rather useless outside of a volume slider widget, but I went in to the veromix settings(maybe it is just missing in the old version found in the official repos. Either way I set the Max Volume Value to 200 and it is LOUD! Will have to turn it down a bit from there lol but it worked great! Thanks for the tip. Also, I think the problem I had earlier was trying to install the plasmoid from google code over the existing. I removed the one from the repos and added the one from google code.

I wanted to bring this topic back up, I ended up using Veromix like I said, but once I bump the volume past 100%, it starts to distort in my headphones.
