I am getting this error whenever I try to install VLC or any new software from the software center.

I have tried autoclean, and autoremove in the terminal but something still seems wrong.

Any suggestions?

I don't use the GUI applications to install/remove software - I do it all from a terminal. Open a terminal and run:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This will update the package cache and upgrade (smartly) any installed packages that are available. If you receive no errors, then try installing VLC from the terminal:

sudo apt-get install vlc

Are you using the VLC Stable Daily PPA? (https://launchpad.net/~videolan/+archive/stable-daily)

I had the exact same problem, to fix it I had to uninstall everything to do with VLC and disable the PPA. Then I could update and reinstall (a not quite so up to date) VLC from the official repo.

What's happened is that the latest VLC from the VLC PPA has a dependency on particular versions of some other packages that aren't available.

Someone other than me can try that to see if things are working with the master branch PPA. To be honest, I only added the stable-daily PPA to see what the next point release of VLC had to offer, and while everything was working I was content to leave the PPA enabled. However, considering that I'm equally content with the performance, features and stability of the version of VLC in the Ubuntu repos, I'll be sticking with that to avoid future breakage.

I see that you have a ppa repository in use (ppa.launchpad.net) and a third-party repository (dl.google.com testing). What did you add those for? What packages did you install from both?
