Sound stutters in video playback after software update

I have Kubuntu 12.04, and it has worked great until a couple of days ago after software updates, now the sound stutters in youtube and playing videos in vlc or xine. anyone else experiencing this? There was another set of software updates last night, including a new kernel, which I installed, but that did not fix the sound problem.

Anyone else experiencing this?
Is there a fix?
Or ideas of the cause?

Hi redstar.

I had the same problem, after the update, and attributed it to dling the mp3 at the same time. I just tried it again, with a dl of the mp3 and the mpeg and no stutter. So,

a) I can report that I did, indeed, have the problem.
b) It now seems to be gone.
