at this point all you had to do was go to system settings>work space behaviour>workspace and under workspace type select desktop.......

Update I found that i have Plasma active contour installed?

so i removed plasma active and all things that contour search brought up .

then i renamed my kde fold of course the annoying tablet like splashy loads but now its real busted.

the options at my login screen are

        plasma active contour
        plasma active
        kde/plasma
        kde openbox
        lxde

Right now the only things working after all the is mess is lxde menu with which i can run apper

and 90% of the kde apps

Do you have a separate /home partition ?

I would back up all your art and things you don’t want to loose encase a reinstall becomes necessary.

then install synaptic ...........now use it to install/reinstall kubuntu-desktop ....to be sure you have all of it.

and then mark all the rest of that stuff for complete removal (this dose a purge removing all the config files as well ...just uninstalling will leave config's)

that is mark plasma active contour, plasma active, kde openbox, lxde

you may half to reinstall plasma active first (since you already uninstalled it) before you can purge it (complete removal in synaptic)

ore if you prefer apt-get use "purge" insted of remove .......... "sudo apt-get purge plasma active" ....for example.

now before you reboot reinstall kubuntu-desktop again encase any of that purging removed any of it.

this (the problem you are having) is why I don’t recommend having to meney DE's installed together .........it has cosed me no end of grief before.

            you mean kde's correct ?

becuase without lxde desktop i wouldnt have anything working

the reason this is acting up is because plasma active installed it self during my attemped fix?

Ill install synaptic again (i like it )

then leave lxde and kde openbox alone and just purge the rest I suggested .......and while your reinstalling kubuntu-desktop install kubuntu-default-settings as well

I have NO plasma active packages on my kubuntu install ..................
