    No sound in VLC

    Hi,

    I have a fresh install of 12.04 and VLC (the one that comes with the distribution) doesn't produce a sound, but all other audio applications, including SMPlayer, work fine.
    I discovered a workaround - switch an audion channel to none, then switch it back, but it disappers if pause a video.
    It worked without any issues in 11.10.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    For some applications I open kmixer in a konsole and run the digital and capture sliders to somewhere above 90%. PCM is another one to check.

      It seems to fix by installing vlc-plugin-pulse.
      Shouldn't it be installed by default on Kubuntu?

        The vlc package recommends, but does not depend on, vlc-plugin-pulse. How did you install VLC? Normally, most package installers treat recommended packages as dependencies, so I'm surprised you didn't have the plugin.

          Code:
          cat [B]/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic [/B]
          [B]APT::Install-Recommends "false";[/B]
          I disable recommended packages immediately after install
