Screen upside down after 4.8.3 upgrade

Ok, this is the strangest thing I ever saw. I updated to 4.8.3 just now and my computer screen is upside down. The words are spelled correctly but they are backwards. When KDE boot screen is booting as soon as the icon next to the K icon comes up the screen flips over. When opening a window the spelling on top of the window is correct and spelled in the right order. Has anyone had this happen? If so, how do I fix it? Also, how do I revert back to 4.8.2 or can I not do this. Any help appreciated.

I've seen a smattering of these reports lately. I'd recommend Googling for "Linux upside down windows" or something similar -- last time I checked I saw what looked like solutions, although I haven't investigated any of them personally.

I did as you suggested and found a lot of Windows problems but not much on Linux or Kubuntu. I guess I'm looking at a re-install.

how is the monitor mounted on your desk?
Would it help to turn it the other way so that the big flat disk on top of it resemble a foot?
Check if there is any writing on the hardware, like a logo and if it is oriented in the same direction as in the ads.

j/k someone had to do it....

Thank you Steve for all your help. I tried everything and uninstalling nvidia and removing my xorg file let me log in and the screen was right but it still did not respond properly. I tried reinstalling nvidia from xswat and I was back to the same thing. I just reinstalled 12.04 and all is well now. I still have no idea what caused this but am still having nvidia driver problems and kubuntu 12.04. The reason I say kubuntu is of zorin 5 and pc os there are no problems with my video at all. I don't know what Kubuntu is doing but if it keeps up, I'll have no choice but to switch to one of the other distros and support them.

PS: To heinkel....I don't know if you were trying to be a comedian, funny or not, but to me it was being sarcastic and no help at all. Might I suggest you not give up your day job.

The nvidia driver that shipped with 12.04 is known to have a opengl performance regression with certain nvidia cards. A new nvidia driver has been released by nvidia and has been updated for 12.04, but you have to be using the "current-updates" and not the "current" version or you won't get it.

Thank you vw72. I noticed that when the nvidia-current-updates were applied it didn't uninstall nvidia-current. Should or can nvidia-current be uninstalled?

nvidia-current doesn't have to be uninstalled as long as you are using the nvidia-current-updates as the active driver.

It seems like the nvidia-current is still being used according to nvidia-settings. If I uninstall nvidia-current will nvidia-current-updates be automatically used?

Goto system->additional drivers and enable the nvidia-current-updates there.

I did as you said and now Kubuntu is using the nvidia-current-updates driver. I really don't see a difference as my screen still flashes black then comes back on and then there are lines on the screen and I have to reboot. Like I said, It must be Kubuntu because the screen is fine in Zorin and PCos. Thank you for your help.

Have you tried downloading/burning the latest 12.04 LiveCD .iso and booting from it? I'm going to guess that doing so will give you a normal screen, and that would, as most here are/would be prone to contending, support that it is not Kubuntu.

Actually, yes I did, and then I installed it fresh and the problem still exists for me. I have installed 11.10 on a new drive and the problem does not happen on it. So it's not all Kubuntu's but 12.04 that's giving me the problem. Even Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity or Gnome does not cause the problem. I switch out 6 different drives in the same laptop and Kubuntu is the only one doing it. I'm just saying, out of process of elimination it seems to be Kubuntu.

I have downloaded both the DVD version and CD. One thing I did noticed is the DVD version installed the pae kernel. What's the difference between the two?

I wonder if you have a dpms issue or the like? There have been a few other threads on kubuntuforums regarding screen issues, maybe one of their fixes will help (although I think they were with Intel video). It is really odd, because there really isn't much different between Ubuntu 12.04 and Kubuntu 12.04 other than the desktop. It should be the same video drivers and xserver. The only real difference is that Kubuntu starts up with KDM and Ubuntu with LightDM. You could try installing lightdm and see if that solves your problem.

Also, refresh my memory. Does this happen right away or after you are logged in? If after you are logged in, what happens if you create a new user and log in as that user. Does the problem persist?
