      Identical info, yet differently configured KCalc apps. Interesting. My Desktop Theme is Oxygen.

        Extremely bizarre.

        My destkop/application appearance stuff is pretty much default (couple minor changes):

        Application Appearance:
        * Style = Oxygen
        * Colors = Oxygen
        * Icons = Oxygen Ionized

        Workspace Appearance:
        * Window decorations = Oxygen
        * Cursor theme = Constantine
        * Desktop theme = Air

        I don't much care for the Oxygen theme's dark panel.

          I do, because I prefer a dark themed desktop.

            Good question. My "simple" kcalc gives me:

            and I found no settings that would remove the "Constants" menu item, or the other buttons which are not shown on Steve's image.

                    It obviously has a built in IQ checker, and people like me and Steve get the "simplified" simple mode.

                        Did you add an additional repository to get kde 4.8.3?

                              Being a luddite I am still on KCalc 2.9, KDE 4.7.4 ... so I won't participate in comparisons of md5sums and so on ...

                              My first thought was this was a new feature in KDE 4.8 - and sartic got the simpler version after upgrading - but Snowhog and GG have the same less-simple KCalc - so I think we have unearthed a mystery.

                              Is the ppa for 4.8.3 the significant factor? SR, kubicle - did you use that?
                              I'd rather be locked out than locked in.
