    rekonq wont open bookmarks

    Hallo folks,

I am running Kubuntu 12.04 amd64 and have some broblems with bookmarks on rekonq:
If I try to open a bookmarked site by klicking on the bookmaks just nothing happens. The only way to open bookmarked sites is by dragging the bookmark into the adressbar. Any ides what might be wrong?

Bookmarks on the bookmarks panel do work. Get to the panel via Shift-Ctrl-b. The bookmarks menu across the top 1) does not work and 2) is not wide enough to show "Bookmarks", I only see "okma". I wish the menu would work, I find having to display the panel to be an annoyance and it takes up too much of the screen.

kubuntu is giving us a defective version of rekonq

Kubuntu is using 0.9. Normally, would a version that began with "0" be considered like a beta version?

Is there any way to prevail on kubuntu to upgrade to a more recent version, such as 1.0 or 1.1?

To whom should such a suggestion be sent?

Unless you're planning on sticking with 12.04 due to its LTS status, just wait another month or so when 12.10 is released, which will have a newer version of rekonq.

          http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package...se/base/rekonq

          Latest version: 1.1-0ubuntu1
          Release: quantal (12.10)

Rekonq 1.0 is in Precise-backports now, if you don't want to wait.

I do not want to wait. How do I install the backports version? It is enabled in my sources.list file in /etc/apt. I do not know how to access it (with apt-get install).

(Suddenly, I can reply to this thread -- 5th time is a charm!? You can ignore the private email that I sent.)

Hm...yeah, I saw your email. Not sure why you had troubles posting! Next time that happens, try to capture a screenshot of any errors.

Let's double-check your backports. You should see this in /etc/apt/sources.list:
                Code:
deb http://mirror.anl.gov/ubuntu/ precise-backports main restricted universe multiverse
                deb-src http://mirror.anl.gov/ubuntu/ precise-backports main restricted universe multiverse
If the lines aren't there, or if they begin with #, then the backports repository isn't checked when you apt-get update.

(NOTE: if you aren't concerned about source code repositories, then you can ignore the second line.)

Also, let's see what APT thinks it can install:
                Code:
                apt-cache policy rekonq

trapped in a beta version of rekonq

                  In /etc/apt:

                  grep backport sources.list
                  ## Also, please note that software in backports WILL NOT receive any review
deb http://hk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-backports main restricted universe multiverse
                  deb-src http://hk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-backports main restricted universe multiverse

                  Also this:

                  apt-cache policy rekonq
                  rekonq:
                  Installed: 0.9.1-0ubuntu2
                  Candidate: 0.9.1-0ubuntu2
