no network connection to install from usb

I tried that and this is what I got:

A question: does it matter that the program looks for an ubuntu release when I want the kubuntu release?

no it dose not mater ......

open you package manager , muon ,synaptic , whatever you use go to settings>software sources and click the updates tab,,, at the bottom (in muon anyway) whare it says release upgrade click the drop down box and select normal releases ,,,,then close muon and try the "sudo do-release-upgrade -d" again

Another way to do that is to edit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and change the Prompt line to:

Prompt=normal

Excuse my patent ignorance, but what do I have to type to do that?

Press Alt+F2 and type: kdesudo kate /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
Enter your password and the file will open for editing (as 'root').

Find the line: Prompt= (should be the last line in the file) and change it to read: Prompt=normal

Save and close the file.

Thanks--I tried that and discovered that the prompt was set to normal. So it should try to update to 11.10, but instead it tells me no update can be found. So where do I go from here? This is getting interesting.
