Pre not being able to boot

I'm sure this is described somewhere, but my search has not been successful - so:

I use one "trusty" PC with 12.04 and Win7.

So, I am running out of space for Win7, while there is still room on the partition for 12.04

I have tried using Gparted 0.16.2-11, booting from a CD, but when I try moving it, I am warned that doing so may/will destroy the booting, so I don't want to do that.

When I first got this PC I first installed Win7, then Kubuntu, using the partitioning tools in the install routines to divide the hard disk in approximately two equal parts.

Is it possible to expand the first (W7) partition without the need for new install of Kubuntu? I'd rather wait for stable LTS before I do that.

You *might* be ok. One can reinstall the bootloader from a Kubuntu live disk, which will fix things if they do go bad

I have not tried the new boot-repair program, but the command line method does work to fix things if you can't boot after resizing your partitions, reinstall windows, etc.
