Unplug them then plug them in, run "dmesg" and post the last couple of lines of output. This should indicate how the keyboard and mouse are being detected.

Unless my memory fails me, PS/2 doesn't officially support hot-plugging... in fact, I seem to remember there being a small risk of hardware damage if it is attempted.

I have taken the risk myself in the past without encountering any problems, but it's worth keeping in mind that hot-plugging a PS/2 device is not a 100% guaranteed safe procedure (the only truly safe way to hot-plug a PS/2 peripheral is to connect it to a USB port via a PS/2 -> USB adapter).

Oh. Hmm, Ok! Well I'll be honest, I don't know much about PS/2 mice and keyboards. They are from so long ago that I didn't even know they were still being made. I remember my first computer having them but I quickly switched to usb peripherals even though they used to cost a small fortune. Maybe somebody else can help you then.

Stop it, you're making me feel old! My first PC had one of those huge DIN sockets for connecting the keyboard, and didn't have a mouse at all! Since then, I've used RS-232 (DE-9 connector) serial mice, bus mice (Microsoft InPort), PS/2 mice (and keyboards), and now USB.

Maybe somebody else can help you then.
I'm not the one asking for help in this thread.
