    Can't get fonts just right

    Since stepping through the version upgrades the other day (from 11.04 to 12.04), I've been unable to get my fonts back to exactly where I want them. For example, when I'm using the GIMP and go to save a file, the list of files in a directory are shown with a TINY font I can barely read. I've adjusted and readjusted my system font settings, including those for GTK+ apps, but there are still a few that just aren't right. Any ideas?

    GIMP has a separate folders --for just about everything GIMP related-- including its own fonts.

    From the menu;
    • Edit --> Preferences --> Theme
    • This should give you the directory to the installed theme (/usr/share/gimp/2.0/themes/Default) inside you should find a file called 'gtkrc'.
    • Inside this look for anything font related. GIMP will over ride the KDE because that is just the way they built it.

    I suggest you make a copy of 'gtkrc' in the home directory (~/.gimp-2.6/themes/Default) and play with it there or better yet just download and install a theme you can edit.

      Thanks for the suggestion, Simon. The problem isn't limited to the GIMP, however, it's system-wide and affects many applications. In the past, simply setting my font preferences via System Settings did it. So I'm a bit puzzled. But I will fiddle with GIMP's rc file anyway.
