    Boots to black screen

My 12.04 desktop boots to black screen. There are no error messages. I suspected GRUB only because it goes nowhere after posting. I tried rescatux (supergrubdisk) and rewrote a new MBR. It made no difference. Hitting Shift at boot-up quickly show "grub loading" (or something like that) but I never see any options.

    Not sure where to start.

Bad hard drive. Mods you can probably remove this post.
