after upgrading to Kubuntu 12.04, Black Screen

    hello guys,

I had black screen after upgrading my pc to kubuntu 12.04. I have a video card "NVIDIA geforce 9300 ge".

I had reinstalled the nvidia driver with:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/nvidia
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-common nvidia-settings nvidia-current

    sudo nvidia-xconfig

after rebooting the system I had again the balck screen. In the log file xorg.0.log i found

(EE) NVIDIA(0) failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module
    (EE) NVIDIA(0) ***Aborting***

    please, could help me ?

    thanks in advance
    Sandro

"upubuntu"? This would be the first time I've heard of that. Their Launchpad page for nVidia shows version 295.59, which is actually behind the current release. I would instead suggest using the X Updates PPA, which is maintained by the official Ubuntu X developers.

"upubuntu" is the PPA for ubuntu nvidia drivers 295.59, is normal.

Anyway I trayed to format the disk and again install Kubuntu 12.04 from CD but I have the same problem: after grub menu choice I immediatly had the the video with some strange horizzontal lines and after the login prompt on the terminal.

please How can I check the driver current installed on my pc ?

      thanks

Upubuntu is an independent blog with Ubuntu/Linux tips and they also publish a collection of PPAs. However, it would appear that at least their nVidia PPA is rather out of date. For something as critical as video drivers, I'd urge you to instead obtain your updates from a source that's aligned with Ubuntu development. Thus my suggestion of the X Updates PPA.

          tanks for this info.
at the end I installed driver 295.59 an it works, after login I got the desktop and the system is very very slow, but on the terminal it seems to me normal. I don't understand , the problem could be KDE wh??

          regards
