This is probably an issue of me not fully understanding KWallet (I really don't like it either). Anyway, I just want Kwallet to automatically supply passwords including its own. Once I enter the Kwallet password, it does what it's supposed to; supply my email password to my email provider.

Unwanted Behavior: Kwallet Prompts for Password When Manually Chking KMail

Hi
I dunno about automatically supplying passwords, but yes, it can be irritating. Immediately upon startup it is yammering for a password and the welcome chime hasn't even sounded! But, i figure it is somewhat of a tradeoff since I use Kontact and Gmail, and that saves a couple of keystrokes.

If you set a blank password for your wallet, it won't prompt you for one when accessing it.
Of course this is less secure than having a password to protect the wallet, but if you prefer convenience you can change the password to blank with kwalletmanager (Alt+F2, "kwalletmanager"...naturally, "kwalletmanager" package should be installed for this to work).

Is this something different with 12.04? I never had to enable KWallet to check my email in KMail. Oh, and here's another part of this issue: if I choose not to use KWallet, KMail, on startup, will prompt me for my email password which is fine, but there's no functionality, I know of, where it can store it's own password. I've reconfigured KMail numerous times. An SMTP password (for sending email can be saved in the program), but the receive password can not AFAIK. This, I suppose is the real issue of this thread. So maybe this is more of a KMail issue. I'd rather not use KWallet at all if I can get the functionality and convenience I need without it."If you're in a room with another person who sees the world exactly as you do, one of you is redundant." AFAIK (meaning "last I checked"), kmail2 won't save mail retrieval passwords to the config files anymore (mail retrieval is handled by the akonadi agents in kmail2, not by kmail itself)...and therefore requires kwallet (if you wish to save your passwords).

Wow! Good information all. Thank you. I'm going to mark this one solved. What I did in KWallet config is reset my password to nothing; meaning no characters were entered at all into the password prompt. I don't know why it works, but it does. I can now send and receive email without having to enter my password everytime or to envoke KWallet.
