Issue with display after installation

Hi everyone

I've tried installing several times but each time I get the same result. The display is showing garbled lines and I cant see anything. I wonder if its my factory overclocked Zotac 560ti AMP! card that it doesnt like.

If you run 12.04 from the LiveCD, do you have the same issue?

What disk did you use so far?

I used the kubuntu 12.04 LTS dvd.

Next boot with garbled screen, try this:

CRTL-ATL-F1
log in
type: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |more


Scroll through the file and look for warnings (WW) and errors (EE). Also note which driver is being used. Report back...

Unfortunately the display is still garbled after pressing ctrl+alt+F1 so I cannot see what Im doing.

Sounds like your video card is not starting in a mode compatible with your monitor. Have you tried booting to recovery mode to see if you get a readable text console?

It works perfectly in bios and in windows 7, sounds more likely to be linux at fault.

Sounds like linux is not starting your video card in a mode compatible with your monitor.

Common guy, you have to help out a little bit. This is a linux forum...

What if he edited his kernel line in grub at boot and added VGA=791 to force 1024x768? Think that would at least get him further into the system to troubleshoot?

Why would I want to lower my resolution. Surely kubuntu should support my native (common) res.Its rediculous that this issue even exists when it works fine on Windows.

Lowering your resolution would be to enable you to boot into the system to troubleshoot what is wrong it would not be the solution to the problem.
