        Hi,

Everytime i try to open them my netbook freezes up completely, tried opening it with kate and kwrite and tried both files and they both locked it up. Is it ok to delete the files in this folder?

They are only logs so are safe to delete, but finding out whats inside them might indicate whats going wrong try:
          Code:
          tail -n 50 /var/log/XXX
to print out the last 50 lines (increase the number if you need to)

Hmm, something might be wrong with /dev/sdb... I would start backing up just in case

Might also want to read https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/261635

Do you reckon a re-install might fix the issue?

Before you reinstall (which I would doubt will fix it), try booting with the acpi=off kernel option, as stated here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...01/comments/92

                      Hi,

Thanks for the link, i turned off acpi which seemed to have worked to a certain extent but its not really any use as i need power management enabled for when i'm on the go. It must be one of those rare bugs that certain systems get whether it's Kubuntu or KDE itself i don't know.

Thanks very much for all your suggestions which are all very much appreciated so far,

                      Steve
