Hi folk,
I've just installed Kubuntu 12.04 as I need to use this version for some work I'm (trying) to do.
I've configured the Network proxy as normally required for our corporate network ( i.e. manual settings ).
I can browse OK. In particular I can browse to http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/ and download the Release.gpg file.
I'm doing this because the software update system ( Muon ) does not appear to work. Muon cannot connect.
Neither can wget. When I attempt to use wget to obtain the file referred to above, it complains about being unable to establish a Network connection.
DNS does not seem to be the culprit. nslookup resolves the archive.ubuntu.com name, and wget indicates that it is using the correct addresses.
So, what cunning configuration do I require in order to allow non-browser tools to do what I can do in the browser ?
[OK, question answered - I need to manually set the http_proxy environment variable in /etc/environment. Why doesn't 'System Settings>Network Settings>Proxy' do this ? Grrrr...]
Thanks,
Mark de Roussier
