Franklin USB U600 (Wimax) connects and disconnects to a port multiple times.

In a previous post I reported on my problems with attaching the Franklin U600 (Virgin Mobile) broadband modem to a serial port and to get it to connect to a 3G broadband network. I had a U760 wokring just fine before, but now even the U760 stopped to perform.

lsusb finds the modem (vendorroduct) 1fac:0150. Dmesg reports it as attached to serial port ttyUSB0 like this:

    "sudo dmesg|grep -i ttyUSB
    [ 1774.158585] usb 3-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    [ 1774.159059] usb 3-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
    [ 1774.163238] usb 3-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2
    [ 1939.778042] option1 ttyUSB0: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
    [ 1939.780520] option1 ttyUSB1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1
    [ 1939.780817] option1 ttyUSB2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB2
[ 2032.033275] usb 1-3.2: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[ 2208.562808] generic ttyUSB0: generic converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
[ 4393.329052] usb 1-3.2: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[ 5265.517478] generic ttyUSB0: generic converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
[10676.761203] usb 1-3.2: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0"

Please note how it attaches and then disconnect several times. I do not know what to make of this.
    Does anyone else know?
If yes, please let me know and save me some time. You might just help some other computer user who is also struggling with this USB modem.
    Thanks.

So it was working, and now it isn't, on the same PC and same OS? Implies a kernel module issue. Have you tried booting into a previous kernel and seeing if it works there?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Yes, I have. It does not work there either.
But having it show up on ttyUSB0 is sort of a success.
In the meantime I have managed to extract the setup data from the 3g modem part. Adding the info to modeswitch.conf should help.

The modem is activated in Windows and works there just fine. It is a Linux problem, which it should not be. But Network-manager suddenly has the 'Mobile BOradband' option greyed out.
I am working my way slowly to a solution. Right now I need to get wireless working in a fresh installation of 12.04. Same problem: Network-Manager greyed out 'wireless' and 'mobile broadband'.
