Network based appelications not detecting network connection

I am using 64 Bit Precise on HP Pavilion DV6.

I have WICD installed from which I connect to internet via wifi or LAN. I dont use proxy. The connection goes well and my web browsers rekonq and chrome are all able to connect to internet. However, other applications are not at all able to detect the internet active connection and never connect to internet. these applications are: Kopete, Pidgin, Kmail, Evolution and some more. None of these can detect net being up. This problem occurs irrespective of whether I am using LAN connection or Wifi. I have to every time launch application from konsole by --force-online command. Sometimes, even by this, application crashes in the middle of some work. What could be going wrong due to which the internet connection is not detected by these applications?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can not help directly...but have you tried connecting these devices with KDE's default Network Manager?

I have had very bad experiences with network manager is past, way back while using Maverick, particularly, it will never detect my wifi... At that time, I parmanently uninstalled it to install WICD which has been working well ever since. Till recently, all applications including Pidgin, Kmail, Thunderbird were detecting network up. But now they just dont. Surprisingly, Thunderbird can detect network up, I dont know why others can't.

For information, further to above, I have migrated my mail and personal management to Thunderbird + Lightning. There, it is able to detect my network connectivity very well. So, I have stopped using Evolution altogether. You may please close the thread... Thanks
