Wireless not working with Centrino Advanced-N 6205

Hello,
I have a problem with my wirelesscard. With Windows 7 all works fine. With Kubuntu, wireless doesn't work with a wpa key. Uncrypted connections work fine.

If unencrypted wireless works, then the hardware is OK. It is now a case of choosing the correct encryption method, and giving it the correct password.

I wireless does not work AT ALL, then we have a different item to troubleshoot.

You're right. Wireless is working, but the problem is, that the wpa encryption doesn't work.(The password is also correct).

So I can only connect with uncrypted Networks. (WEP I haven't tried, but is no alternative).

OK, then lets try this:

Left click the network icon in the 'Kicker' (the panel on the lower right of the screen)
Left click "Manage Connections"
In the "Wireless" tab, left click the network you are trying to connect to, then click "Edit"

On the "Wireless Security" tab you should get something like the screenshot I have attached. What is selected for "Security"?

WPA/WPA2 Personal... Password is also correct. BSSID and MAC are empty and Mode is Infrastructure. The setting are correct.

Do I have to install any package? The wpa_supplicant is preinstalled. So I pressume it should work, but it doesn't

OK, can we back up one step and try something else?

Select the network you want to connect to, and delete it from the list. Then click the "Add" button.

Now go to the "Wireless" tab and click the 'scan' button. You should get a little graphic of the networks that are close to you. Select the one you want to connect to. The boxes for the Connection name, and SSID shuld be filled in automatically. Just under the connection name, click the "Connect Automatically" box. Now go to the Wireless Security tab, and fill in again the correct password. It is case sensitive.

Click 'OK' until you are back out of the Network Manager setup utility.

Now try to connect. Does it work now?

If the password is correct, including the case of the password, then we've now gone beyond my level of 'expertise'. Perhaps someone else will jump in at this point.

first let me say I'm not sure just what the prob may be ...........but let me go out on a limb hear.

when I first got this laptop and was still on 11.04 although my wireless would come up and seem to be working it would not connect to anything (fairly new wireless card as yours seems to be ) and I had to find the source code and compile the driver my self.

then when I upgraded to 11.10 it worked "out the box" without having to monkey around with things.

my point being that even though 12.04 has a driver "module" for your card it may not be exactly right yet.

when googleing for your card I got several hits at the Ubuntu forums with fixes but for slow connections not no wpa.

just how up to date is your install?

do a

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and see if you get any updated packages especially kernels and if this fixes any thing!!

if not I will point you to a thread that will tell you how to get the vary latest kernel that will run on 12.04 (whitch may have a better module for you)

Something else to consider. He says that his wireless connection works fine if set to unencrypted. Also, that the wireless works in Windows 7.

What we haven't been told, is what the routers wireless security is set to? If it's set to WEP and he is trying to use WPA in the connection manager, it isn't going to work.

Okay the routers wireless setting is of course wpa too. (Checked it again and would be ashamed it hadn't been)

Tried to update and it's still not working. I just found on the internet that it's official supported and that it's not necessary to load any additional drivers...

if your feeling adventuress go hear http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4.1-quantal/ and download the 3 .deb's (and I do meen all 3)for your arc. that is amd64 or i386 dependig on wether you use a 64bit system or not AND the linux-headers-3.4.1-030401_3.4.1-030401.201206041411_all.deb then go to where thay were downloaded to in dolphen and tools>terminal (this will open the terminal their) then do

sudo dpkg -i linux*3.4.1*.deb

this will install all of it in one shot and reboot then maby .....just maby it will have better support for your wireless device .

I'v been using this kernel for a little wile now and it's ok hear ......but should it barf on you just reboot again and select your curent kernel at the grub boot screen when you reboot.
