I bought an ASUS USB-10 to use because kernel 3.x doesn't play nicely with my Intel wifi chipset (iwlwifi), and it worked perfectly... until the latest kernel upgrade. Now it will only connect in B/G and is very slow in doing so. Some research shows that it is a known regression error in the 3.2 kernel, but it is being fixed and is supposed to be included in future 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 kernels. I don't know if it has been merged into these kernels (3.3 or 3.4) yet. The actual mainline driver is r8172u. Does anyone know if the fix has been incorporated?
Also, if I install a 3.3 or 3.4 kernel in 12.04, will my video driver get recompiled automatically, or do I suddenly need to start handling everything manually? Are there other gotchas that I'm not considering? Should I just live with B/G until this regression fix makes its way back into 3.2?
Your advice would be most appreciated!
