I run Kubuntu 12.04 with a Windows 7 VM, using VMware Player. I have USB 3.0 devices attached to a PCI Express 3.0 card. The Linux machine recognizes them just fine, but the Windows VM does not. Does anyone know of a card that supports virtualization? I had heard that StarTech had one, but a representative told me that was not correct. I know I can always use the 3.0 devices in the VM on a 2.0 connection, but that sort of defeats the purpose of 3.0. Thanks in advance.

Which version of VMware Player?
I know that VMware Workstation 7 exposed only USB 2.0 to guests. Devices on USB 3.0 controllers weren't even detected. Workstation 8 supports only the NEC xHCI USB 3.0 ports, but runs only USB 2.0/1.1 signaling over the virtual bus. Workstation 9 has some generic drivers, but the way they work depends on what kind of additional drivers you can install in the guest.
You may need to go foraging through the VMware knowledge base for a solution.
