    YouTube fast forward???

    Hi, new member here.
I just installed Kubuntu to a laptop with a broken screen, so I connect to my tv with HDMI.
YouTube in Firefox and Chromium was playing great, but no sound via HDMI, so I was tinkering with KMix and now youTube plays in fast forward and muted.
I can't reset it so has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks.

Try mess around with phono for the sound. The youtube is odd, maybe try disabling hardware acceleration of videos.

Thanks, I tried Phonon but no progress there, I disabled hardware acceleration in YouTube but it's still running fast and silent. I've never seen this problem before.

Is there another way to disable hardware acceleration?

What kind of TV (aka brand name make and model)? I have an Emerson 22" and when I attempted this I also didn't get sound. Also sometimes the graphics card will not support audio, you will need to look that up. If your card is actually DVI with a HDMI jack, DVI does support audio. So make sure your hardware is not to blame.

Once you get that worked out make sure hdmi sound output is default device. I assume you are using KMix? Look under Playback Devices and see if you have options listed there. I had to live with my HMDI video and hooked up a stereo line from my sound card to an RCA splitter to the RCA inputs on the back. You might have to do the same. The stereo to RCA cord should be under $7 at most electronics outlets.

I hope you can get the HDMI working instead.

Ok, put simply, which graphics card do you have and which driver? If its Nvidia then the proprietary driver is a must if you want anything to work reliably. If its Intel then it will work reliably if its ATI/AMD then I can't help.

With Phonon you might need to look at which device is being selected for playback under the Audio Hardware Setup tab. Mind listing what options you have under sound card and sound device? Furthermore, please make you aren't muted with Kmix.

(As an aside, 12.04 was not the greatest release ever. I would highly recommend getting onto 12.10 and then upgrading KDE to 4.10. The new Kmix is a huge step up for KDE's sound management and makes tools like pavucontrol redundant at last. Recommended and not a must, I'm sure we can get you going with 12.04 as well)

Thanks, YouTube was working fine for the first 48 hours following the Kubuntu install (no sound to the tv, but through ths laptop speakers, but running at normal speed) it just suddenly decided, yesterday, to go into fast forward mode, in Kubuntu only.
I tried a couple of live boot /install distro discs on the laptop (Zorin 6 Lite and Linux Mint 12) and YouTube worked at normal speed with them, so I suspect the Kubuntu install has been upset by something I have done while tinkering with Kmix settings, although that makes no sense, that's when it happened.
The tv (Sony Bravia) is connected via HDMI, not DVI. I know the difference, having been a satellite tv installer for a few years.
The main priority is to fix the fast forward problem now, before I hand the laptop back to it's owner.

                Try
                Code:
                mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla_old
Also for the sound, you still haven't told us which graphics card you are using and which drivers.

                  Here are the laptop specs:
HP Pavilion dv5-1111ea Entertainment Notebook PC
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 Graphics

as for drivers, I couldn't say until next week.

Thanks dmeyer, I tried your suggestion, and whatever it was, it appears to have worked. Now I can hand over a fully useable computer, I will post back with their views about Kubuntu.

Edit: Nah! It's gone back to fast forward again, and now no audio at all, even xbmc has gone silent. And Firefox seems to have lost it's memory too.

Edit 2: Working fine again. What is going on here

To fix YouTube (and possibly other Flash-related) problems, try:
                      Code:
                      rm -rfv ~/.macromedia

                      Comment

                      Working...
