Good evening,
The fan of my laptop keep firing on and off even though the temperature stays moderate. Around 49-54°C. I have the impression it could start at much higher temperatures, as it used to (likely before 11.10).
I've tried to gather information and to find a solution, but there are still some black holes in my understanding of the issue ... I welcome any help !
I've run $ sensors-detect and and got
Driver `coretemp':
* Chip `Intel digital thermal sensor' (confidence: 9)
sensors output
The methode found in many posts to run pwmconfig doesn't work, it returns
I haven't tried to modify /etc/sensors.conf for fear of messing things up.
Thanks for shedding a light !
PS: using 12.04 LTS but the problem was already present under 11.10
UPDATE : from everything I could find, this «Adapter : Virtual Device» means there's no easy way to know what's inside, so no straightforward solution. Gladly the BIOS on my machine has two thresholds (55° and 65°) for fan start-up points. That's an ok solution, but the way it does function is not ideal neither.
