    Optimizing the Lenovo X230T

About four months ago I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220T. I needed to get a new laptop, and also wanted a tablet; but I travel a lot and didn't want to lug two devices around, and I need the ability to create full-fledged content in the word processor, spreadsheet and presentation programs while on the road. What I ultimately want to do is get it set up so that when I have the computer in "laptop mode," i.e. normal orientation with the keyboard exposed, it functions like a laptop, and when I fold the screen over into "tablet mode" I have a tablet-like experience. Tablet mode will be used primarily for web browsing with Chromium in full screen mode, reading e-books in Calibre or the Chromium Kindle app, watching videos, and reading .pdfs in full screen view. Laptop mode will be for work.

Thanks to unclepedro and Favux at the Ubuntu forums and this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1785015) I was able to get Kubuntu up and running nicely. So far laptop mode is just fine. In addition to the OS, I successfully installed magic rotation, so the screen rotation works like a charm. Thanks to the thread mentioned above and this forum, I was able to set up magic rotation so that it switches activities when I fold the screen over and switches back when I open it back up.

What I want to do now is optimize the “tablet” experience. One of the issues I am running into is that when I put Chromium or a .pdf reader into full screen mode, I can't easily get back out without the keyboard (specifically the escape key). The Thinkpad X230T has three buttons that are accessible when the screen is folded over, but seem to have no function in Kubuntu. Is there a way to map the escape key to one of them?

The Thinkpad X230T comes with a stylus that has a pointy end, a button on the side and an “eraser” on the other end. The pointy end and the eraser both function as a left mouse button click when you touch the screen with them. If you hold the button on the side and touch the screen with the pointy end you get a right-click. Is there a way to remap the eraser end so that it scrolls the active window, like you would do with your finger on a smartphone? I know that in the past in Kubuntu, if you clicked and held the mousewheel you could then move the mouse up or down and it would scroll the active window, I would like to try to map this function (if it still exists) to the eraser.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

I can offer only a suggestion. Investigate the xinput utility. IIRC, it has some ability to remap actions of various devices. You'll likely need to Google around a bit for the details.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out and let you know what I find.
