    Epson Scanner will not work

I am trying to get my Epson 4180 scanner working with Kubuntu 12.04. When plugged in & switched on it shows up if I lsusb so it is being recognised but on running xsane it gives the error message "No Devices Found" Why is this happening when it is clearly being recognised ?

Try installing HPLIP from the repos.

Unfortunately this did not work, perhaps not surprising as it seems specific for HP devices & did not detect anything.

Have a look here http://http://www.sane-project.org/c...&bus=any&v=&p=it looks like you need the epkowa backend. You can get a driver from here http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do

The drivers are RPM install alien with Muon package Manager and use it to install these drivers. In Konsole type alien --to-deb package.rpm where package should be replaced with the actual driver file name.
