A heartfelt thanks to the developers of (K)Ubuntu, for making an awesome distro which just works for me.
Also thanks to the contributors to this forum for all the smart solutions they gave.
I started using Precise Pangolin alpha 2, first just playing with it on a seperate partition, but soon using it for my daily work on both my machines
An Asus EEE 1015BX (AMD C50, 1GB, integrated ATI graphics, installed 32bit
A desktop (Intel ES 200, Intel 82G33 graphics and onboard sound, Intel HDA (ALC888 Analog) installed 64bit.
Of course there wher problems and bugs, but they were easily solved or by an update or by the advice found on this forum.
So now I have two systems which can work for the next five years and I'm very happy with it
