    A few details

    Hi all,
I just installed kubuntu 12.04 beta2. It is the first time I use the kubuntu installer (rather than the ubuntu installer + kubuntu package)
Everything worked fine, I just have a few comments on things that are doable with ubuntu

    installer:
    - can't access to my wifi (how to choose the network and enter password?)
    - can't test the selected keyboard

    kde
    - was not able to find a graphical tool to handle mounted disc (I have to edit fstab)
    - firefox does not know how to install .deb, how to open the containing folder, downloads on /tmp (even is Download appears in parameters)
    - the K-menu was not refreshed after installing a few apps (a reboot fixed it)
    - the muon updater stayed locked even after a reboot (sudo apt-get upgrade fixed it)

Thank you for your excellent job

When you installed, did you go to the live CD first or did you install right away. If going to the live session first, setting up wifi there will copy the settings to the hard drive during the install. Telling the cd to install right away, should also find your wifi and allow it to be set up, but sometimes it doesn't. If it did detect your wifi, there should be an icon on the task bar for the network or you can run knetwork manager.

I can't help you with the keyboard, maybe somebody else will chip in.

Could you describe more what you are trying to do with regards to a graphical tool to handle mounted disks?

Firefox has several problems with KDE in general and outside applications. Safest thing to do with .deb files is to actually download them, then go to the download directory and double-click them to install them. Telling firefox to install directly tends to fail.

If the menu failed to refressh, that is a bug. However, logging out and back in should fix it (you shouldn't need to reboot).

As for muon, sometimes, if it is interrupted, a file remains locked and you have to unlock/delete it. The only way to find out is to open a terminal and do a sudo apt-get update. It will give an error message about the lock file. After deleteing it, then sudo apt-get install -f and everything is squared away. It really isn't a muon problem, but an underlying apt problem.

Hopefully, these few wrinkles will be ironed out before the official release.

You can force KDE to re-read all .desktop and .directory files, and thus rebuild the menu, with this command:
      Code:
      sudo kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental --global

Chrome/chromium has good KDE integration (opens deb files, kde file dialogs etc). So I highly recommend it

For some reason, it takes around 1 or 2 minutes for an installed app to show up in the menu. But it will show up.

            Thanks for your help.

I was not blocked, I just try to give a few way to improve kubuntu (very small things but that are doable with ubuntu).

I installed directly without loading the live session and it did not found my wifi. I just have a pop-up saying something like 'no internet connection is found' and I was not able to try again.

I also use chromium, but the installation of firefox is almost automatic, so it is too bad the integration with KDE is not perfect.

During the install, the partition tool is perfect (format, mount...), but I did not mount my non-system partitions during the install. And I was not able to find an equivalent graphical tool once kubuntu is installed.

Thanks again, except that little things, everything work fine.
