Couldn't wait any longer, and so I installed Precise 12.04 Beta 1 a couple of days ago.
All working fine, absolutely no problems.
That is, until this morning.
When I booted up, there was no Conky.
Tried to launch from CLI, ziltch!
Checked the file system, and it's gone.
No trace, no farewell note, no trail of breadcrumbs through the forest, nothing.
I have re-installed it and all is well again, but this is really weird .

Do you mean your conkyrc script or conky itself was removed? Strange either way considering there have been no updates for conky itself.

Script is fine but Conky itself was totally removed.
I have been using Linux for about three years now and I have never seen anything like this before.
I don't use Muon, only Synaptic ( old habits die hard ), and all that I did yesterday was..

None off which affect Conky as far as I am aware.
This is a real mystery.

I was just looking at your list above and thought perhaps a potential 'conflict' with libpam-gnome-keyring based purely on the small chance you have conky companions ppa installed...

No conky companions ppa here.
Thinking back, the only thing I can recall, is after installing Chromium and running it, I got a "program has crashed" warning ( the yellow star thing with the apostrophe )
I assumed it was Chromium and so shut it down and relaunched it.
Perhaps it was Conky that crashed, although I cannot think of why, or why it would get itself uninstalled.
Ah, one of life's great mysteries.

the only thing even close on that list i could see conky using is "libmagick++4 (8:6.6.9.7-5ubuntu3)" but im not sure if it does. have you tried to reinstall conky since this happened?

you can install synaptic on kubuntu easily use the command

sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install synaptic

to get it without pulling most of the other gnome stuff.

Yes I have re-installed Conky and it all seems to be working fine, with the exception of a couple of mysteries.
Mystery one is the fact that it autostarts, but I have not added it to Autostart-System Settings, nor is there an entry in /etc/xdg/autostart, nor have I ever created a launch script.
I can live with this type of mystery.
The second one is that it is really slow at picking up the CPU temperature and GPU temperature.
My machine boots in around 40 seconds from switch on, but it can take Conky another 20-30 seconds to get these figures.
All the other stuff like hard drive temperatures, RAM load, CPU core loads etc come up immediately.
This only happens with 12.04 Beta 1, and no other distro I have used including 11.10.
Conky doesn't like something about 12.04 64-bit.

Running on an Intel i5 2500k with 8Gb RAM

~/.kde/Autostart folder is empty.

I have had a good search throughout the system, but I am damned if I can figure out what is autostarting it.
It's really not all that important.....more a system curiosity.
I see elsewhere that bra|10n is also having Conky problems.
Shame really because it is a useful piece of software.

It could be started by KDE's session management (if you have saved a session or have KDE to remember sessions...KDE should launch programs that were running when you log out...or were running when you saved a session).

Think you may well have the answer there.
I have never tried to save a session, but I have noticed that if I shut down and accidently leave Thunderbird running minimised, when I start up the machine, there is Thunderbird running again.
Whew, I'm glad we got to the bottom of that. I had thought my box was possessed.
