KDE - Fat fonts

In Kubuntu precise fonts look bold instead of regular.
This is probably due to ubuntu-font-family that ships a lot of sub-type (light, regular, bold...) and qt4 is not able to handle this.

Did you try to change Font Settings in SystemSettings>Application Appearance>Fonts. Use anti-aliasing "enabled". Then configure and choose "use sub-pixel rendering: RGB" and then choose hinting style (for ex. medium).

Yep, tried playing with those settings but it didn't help.
RGB, slight hint and 96dpi are the settings of fonts in Ubuntu, in Kde should be the same but with these settings fonts are bold.
This is due to naming of font sub type (normal, light, regular..) and qt4 apps are not able to take the correct one.

I've worked around this by disabling the troublesome subtypes. Run kdesu systemsettings, choose Font Management, expand the font family in question. Then for each separate font you don't want, right-click and choose Disable.
