Precise and Printers!

I had my HP Laser Jet Pro P1606dn plugged into my Sony laptop, which I haven't used since I installed Precise in dual boot on this Acer 7739. I was curious, so I ran:

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

When it was done I closed the console and switched the HP's USB plug to this laptop. For Lucid I had to manually use CUPS to configure it. The printer had been dormant for over a week. Within seconds a msg popped up "Detecting Printer". A few seconds later a second msg appeared "Configuring HP P1606dn". Then, a print status icon appeared in the system tray. Using it I adjusted the setup to include double sided printing and then sent a test page to the printer. Perfect results.


What printers are you using with Precise, and what are your results?

I used system settings to set up my HP laserjet2605dn. Just did that today. Thanks for reminding me. I usually don't think about it till I want to print something. That can be a pain.

Printer set up found my printer on the LAN automatically. Just clicked the next buttons. I did enable double sided as you did. Test page printed OK.

When I first got this printer Kubuntu couldn't find it on the network so had to use USB. I don't remember when It started working through the router.
