Pulse not appearing in phonon's list of devices after the last upgrades

I apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio pavucontrol, then reinstalled them with --reinstall, checked that nothing is muted, nothing helps.

When starting some music in amarok, I can see pavucontrol displaying the volume bar as if the music was playing, but none of the audio outputs shows any signal.

Where does phonon keep its configuration? Could this be a hardware problem? It just played before the last update.

try resetting pulse and phonon to its defaults by removing/renaming ~/.pulse* ~/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc /tmp/pulse* (this is best done when not logged into kde, ie via a tty).

Pulse isn't supposed to appear in Phonon, but instead you should see a list of audio devices. This is usually easy to fix by running a command shown on the KDE page in PulseAudio's wiki. The site is migrating to freedesktop.org and appears unavailable at the moment, however.
