    Power Management Broken

Ive posted this on the KDE forums as well, but nobody seems to have a solution so Ill try here too.

A couple weeks ago, all my power management settings became irrelevant. The system completely ignores all settings and turns off the screen after 10 minutes. Disabling power management still results in the screen being turned off after ten minutes. Anybody have any idea

    Kubuntu 11.10 with KDE 4.8

I had the same problem with 10.10. In my case it was my monitor itself, it has power saving settings on it and would turn off after 10 min. Might want to check that because mine started that after it had been unplugged for a while.

I dont think thats it. Even if I set power management to turn the monitor off after one minute, it still turns it off after ten minutes. Basically, no matter what I do, the screen turns off after ten minutes of inactivity.

Do you have power management and display management checked in your startup/services manager?

              Yes, both are checked.

Happened to me too few days ago. Have you checked the activities setting in power management? Try making custom settings in "Use separate settings(advanced user only)" That worked for me.

Nothing. Every aspect of power management is broken. Interestingly, if I create a new user account power management will work for the first session, but will break after restarting x.

                    That is interesting.

Might be useful to see the contents of powerdevilrc and powerdevil2profilesrc in ~/.kde/share/config ... with a new account and after restarting X.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

                      @SecretCode

Do you understand the settings in powermanagementprofilesrc? I have set hardware power button to display shutdown dialog yet it never shows but shuts down as if I've issued halt. Rebooting in those cases often reveals that KDE cannot restore properly opened apps from the previous session and sometimes also DPMS gets enabled. Sorry, for this off topic.

I can't say that I do ... only that comparing contents before and after might yield some clues.

What version are you running on? I have no powermanagementprofilesrc on my system ... and no files in .kde/share with the text '[AC]' ... is this new with Precise?

No, still running on 11.10 but with KDE 4.8.1. I on the contrary have powerdevil2profilesrc, to which you made reference in the previous post, only as a backup file i.e. ".old" was attached to it.

Well, never mind, power management seems to be buggy but I can live with that.

I cant. This is driving me nuts. The only way I can get the screen to stay on is by having a movie running in Dragonplayer.

Does blanking occur in the same session even if you issue xset -dpms command in konsole? Can you run a movie in your favourite player without blanking after that?
