Since the upgrade, I noticed that loading Kmail, and Kontact with Kmail activated got painfully slow.
After a little trial and error, I got both to load much faster.
1. System Settings/Personal Information (Akonadi Resources):
Along with the Resource for Local Folders, I also added the Kmail Mail Folder Resource. These point to the same location, .kde/share/apps/kmail2/mail.
This may seem redundant, but I think it cuts down on the time Akonadi has to locate and gather data for the load.
2. Nepomuk Indexing:
If you are like me, you sometimes get carried away trying a lot of features and setups out.
With all the changes in and out, Nepomuk metadata could have been corrupted. This will cause long search times.
What I did was Rebuild the Nepomuk Store (.kde/share/apps/Nepomuk):
First turn off indexing in System Settings/Desktop Search
Next go to .kde/share/apps and rename (or Delete) the Nepomuk Directory. I renamed it if something goes wrong.
Now reboot and go back to System Settings/Desktop Search and turn back on Semantic desktop.
It will recreate the Nepomuk Directory and rebuild the indexes with current data.
Now Either run Kmail or Kontact. On my machine there was a noticeable improvement on loading.
Hope this may help!
